Outfit of the day

Once in a while the East coast excepts it’s reputation for a freezing and snowy winter and we’re getting a beautiful spring day. I used the opportunity and had to get out one of my favorite Blazer. I just love the bright color and can’t wait to wear it more often again.

Sigma Synthetic Kabuki Set

Since I’ve found my love for Sigma Brushes I did not stop using them and decided to order another set. Sigma has so many choices that it’s difficult to make a dicision. I’ve decided to order another Face kit and ordered the Synthetic Kabuki Set. The set comes with 4 Brushes and I can definitely say that this set became my favorite face brushes.

The brushes don’t shed and blend in both liquid and powder makeup very well. Sigma describes the brushes as “exclusive Synthetic filament, specially designed to apply powder and liquid products without absorption into the fibers. The shape, density and height of the filaments were carefully engineered to perfectly buff products onto the skin, resulting in a high definition effect.”

To make sure the brushes last a long time you should wash them with a mild shampoo once a week.

If you’d like to try out Sigma brushes make sure to use the code 0112XJML until January 31st. You also receive a gift when purchase $30 or more.

Birchbox January 2012

I hope you had a great weekend and got the chance to do some fun stuff.

As I mentioned in my December post, I wasn’t too happy with my Birchbox. The products were tiny and I would probably say the worst samples I’ve received in my boxes. So I thought New Year, new luck  and I can say that I definitely like this month’ products a lot better.

If you haven’t heard of Birchbox, it’s a $10 monthly subscription service that can be canceled at any time. Every month you get 4-5 deluxe high end beauty samples like Nars, Laura Mercier, Blinc, OPI & many more. The products are anything from nail polish to skincare products. It’s a great way to try out new beauty products before buying full sizes. If you love Make up and skin care products you will definitely love it!

My box included:

  • .05  Fl. oz. Juicy Couture Viva La Juicy – it’s a very girly, fruity fragrance with wild Berries, Mandarin, Vanilla, Gardenia, Honeysuckle & Jasmine (1.4 Fl. oz. $64)
  • 1.0 Fl. oz. Origins Checks and Balances Frothy face wash – with aromatic Bergamot, Spearmint and Lavender  (5.0 Fl. oz. $19.50)
  • Full size Product Stila Smudge Stick Waterproof Eye Liner in peacock – LOVE the color! It’s a very pretty dark green. Highly pigmented and long lasting (Full size $20)
  • 1.0 Fl. oz. VMV Hypoallergenics Re-Everything: Face-Hand-Body-Lotion – without artificial fragrances, dyes, parabens, or preservatives (6.3 Fl. oz. $45)
  • Extra: LÄRABAR Mini Bar in coconut creme pie – I like little extras, the bar was nice to try but I wouldn’t buy a whole box

Are you familiar with Birchbox? Do you subscribe to any other boxes? Let me know, I’m always looking for new ways to try products.

Paris vs. New York

I recently came across the Parisian graphic designer Vahram Muratyan and his beautiful work. After a New York City visit he created “Paris vs. New York“. It’s a travel journal where he compares his unique observation of the two brilliant cities.

I was able to visit Paris last year. The city is really nice and I hope I can go back sometime. NYC on the other side is my all time favorite city so I can’t decide which one is better.

Which city do you prefer?

Would you wear it? Bright Eyeshadow for Spring 2012

I recently came across some Beauty and Style tips for Spring 2012 and bright Eyeshadow was one of the Trends. I like to brighten up my Makeup sometimes but I am not sure if I would follow this trend.

Photocredit: Imaxtree.com

The looks were seen at Shows from Miu Mio, Rebecca Taylor and Richard Taylor. As we all know Runway looks are usually over the top but are bright Eye makeups wearable?

If you like the new trend try out some of these palettes

Sigma complete Brush Set Review & Coupon Code

As mentioned in an older post, I’ve ordered the Sigma Complete Kit in December. I’ve always heard good things about Sigma’s products and even though I have a couple of make up brushes (mostly Drugstore brands) I’ve decided to invest in some better ones. I never got into MAC brushes and honestly never even thought of spending that much money.

Sigma Brushes are not available in stores but they have a great online store. The website is very easy too navigate and you are able to get a very close view of the brushes. They only have a US website but they ship internationally.

I didn’t order the Brush roll that Sigma offers just because I don’t think I would necessarily need it. The shipping was very fast (ordered on 12/21 – delivered 12/24) and the Brushes came in a cute little bag that I’m still using to carry them around.

I’ve been using the brushes almost every day so far and made my first impressions.

Foundation Brush F60:
+ great for cream based foundations
+ no shedding
+ blends well

Duo Fibre Brush F50:
+ good for liquid foundation
+ blends well
– sheds during washing and using

Large Powder Brush F30

Large angled contouring Brush F40
+ great for Blush & contouring
+ no shedding
+ blends well
+ soft

Tapered Blending Brush E40
+ soft
+ no shedding
+ blends colors well

Large Shader Brush E60
+ great size
+ no shedding
+ soft bristles

Concealer Brush F70
+ no shedding during using or washing
+ great to work in concealer
+ stiff buy not too hard

Medium angled Shading Brush E70
+ no shedding
+ soft
+ great for crease

Eye Shading E55
+ no shedding
+ great for pigments and blending eyeshadow

Pencil Brush E30
+ no shedding
+ best for applying eyeshadow in the crease or on the waterline
– could be softer

Small Angle Brush E65
+ no shedding
– too big
– not very angled

Eyeliner Brush E05
+ no shedding
+ extra fine tip

My favorite brushes are the Foundation Brush, Blending Brush, Large Shader Brush, Concealer Brush, Pencil Brush and the Eye Shading Brush. My least favorite ones are the Powder Brush and the the Duo Fibre Brush. I love the size of the Powder Brush and that the Duo Fibre Brush blends in the Make up very well but I just don’t like the shedding.

Overall I would definitely recommend the brushes. As I said, I don’t have the comparison to MAC Brushes but I’ve heard many people favoring the Sigma Brushes and not just because of the price.

Sigma currently offers 10% off your complete order. Just use 0112XJML at the checkout until January 31

Cake Pops & a Happy New Year

I hope you all had a fun New Years Eve and a great start into the new year. My boyfriend and I spend Saturday night with a couple of friends. We had great food, drinks & some “Just Dance” fun. I wanted to bring a little something and remembered a sweet treat that I’ve seen around everywhere recently and also found on one of my favorite blogs.

The recipe is pretty easy to follow and all you need is the following:

  • any cake mix
  • creme cheese frosting
  • lollipop sticks
  • chocolate melts

1. Prepare the cake mix as per instructions on the box.
2. Bake cake at 350 degrees. Once cake is baked, set to cool.
3. Once cake is cool, crumble it in a large mixing bowl.
4. Mix the crumble cake together with the frosting.
5. Roll the cake into balls. Once rolled, place them in the refrigerator for several hours.
6. One at a time get a lollipop stick and dip the stick about 1/2 inch of the tip into the melted candy coating and
then insert the lollipop stick straight into a cake ball, pushing it no more than halfway through. Hold the cake ball
and turn it back and forth or softly tap it, so the excess chocolate falls off. Place cake pops in the refrigerator to dry out completely.
Once dry you can wrap it individually.

The tricky part was the chocolate dipping. Some didn’t get enough chocolate coverage and some fell apart and didn’t look representable anymore. The cake pops that survived the chocolate bath were delicious and I will definitely make them again.

Do you have any baking recipes you love?
