Summer Plans 2012

Even though spring basically just started, I can’t wait for the summer. I can’t wait for evenings at the beach, BBQ’s, finishing the semester (I’m transferring to a new college in the fall) and most of all traveling. I haven’t been on a real vacation in 2 years and I’m definitely looking forward to travel again. I booked my flight yesterday and I will fly home to Germany for 6 weeks. I am so excited and I’m hoping to see my friends, eat good food and spend some quality time with my family.

I already planned one or two trips to Berlin. The city has a great flair and is the perfect place to get a mix of shopping and culture.

Sigma Synthetic Kabuki Set

Since I’ve found my love for Sigma Brushes I did not stop using them and decided to order another set. Sigma has so many choices that it’s difficult to make a dicision. I’ve decided to order another Face kit and ordered the Synthetic Kabuki Set. The set comes with 4 Brushes and I can definitely say that this set became my favorite face brushes.

The brushes don’t shed and blend in both liquid and powder makeup very well. Sigma describes the brushes as “exclusive Synthetic filament, specially designed to apply powder and liquid products without absorption into the fibers. The shape, density and height of the filaments were carefully engineered to perfectly buff products onto the skin, resulting in a high definition effect.”

To make sure the brushes last a long time you should wash them with a mild shampoo once a week.

If you’d like to try out Sigma brushes make sure to use the code 0112XJML until January 31st. You also receive a gift when purchase $30 or more.

Birchbox January 2012

I hope you had a great weekend and got the chance to do some fun stuff.

As I mentioned in my December post, I wasn’t too happy with my Birchbox. The products were tiny and I would probably say the worst samples I’ve received in my boxes. So I thought New Year, new luck  and I can say that I definitely like this month’ products a lot better.

If you haven’t heard of Birchbox, it’s a $10 monthly subscription service that can be canceled at any time. Every month you get 4-5 deluxe high end beauty samples like Nars, Laura Mercier, Blinc, OPI & many more. The products are anything from nail polish to skincare products. It’s a great way to try out new beauty products before buying full sizes. If you love Make up and skin care products you will definitely love it!

My box included:

  • .05  Fl. oz. Juicy Couture Viva La Juicy – it’s a very girly, fruity fragrance with wild Berries, Mandarin, Vanilla, Gardenia, Honeysuckle & Jasmine (1.4 Fl. oz. $64)
  • 1.0 Fl. oz. Origins Checks and Balances Frothy face wash – with aromatic Bergamot, Spearmint and Lavender  (5.0 Fl. oz. $19.50)
  • Full size Product Stila Smudge Stick Waterproof Eye Liner in peacock – LOVE the color! It’s a very pretty dark green. Highly pigmented and long lasting (Full size $20)
  • 1.0 Fl. oz. VMV Hypoallergenics Re-Everything: Face-Hand-Body-Lotion – without artificial fragrances, dyes, parabens, or preservatives (6.3 Fl. oz. $45)
  • Extra: LÄRABAR Mini Bar in coconut creme pie – I like little extras, the bar was nice to try but I wouldn’t buy a whole box

Are you familiar with Birchbox? Do you subscribe to any other boxes? Let me know, I’m always looking for new ways to try products.

Paris vs. New York

I recently came across the Parisian graphic designer Vahram Muratyan and his beautiful work. After a New York City visit he created “Paris vs. New York“. It’s a travel journal where he compares his unique observation of the two brilliant cities.

I was able to visit Paris last year. The city is really nice and I hope I can go back sometime. NYC on the other side is my all time favorite city so I can’t decide which one is better.

Which city do you prefer?

Would you wear it? Bright Eyeshadow for Spring 2012

I recently came across some Beauty and Style tips for Spring 2012 and bright Eyeshadow was one of the Trends. I like to brighten up my Makeup sometimes but I am not sure if I would follow this trend.

The looks were seen at Shows from Miu Mio, Rebecca Taylor and Richard Taylor. As we all know Runway looks are usually over the top but are bright Eye makeups wearable?

If you like the new trend try out some of these palettes

Let me know what you think, Yay or Nay?

Cake Pops & a Happy New Year

I hope you all had a fun New Years Eve and a great start into the new year. My boyfriend and I spend Saturday night with a couple of friends. We had great food, drinks & some “Just Dance” fun. I wanted to bring a little something and remembered a sweet treat that I’ve seen around everywhere recently and also found on one of my favorite blogs.

The recipe is pretty easy to follow and all you need is the following:

  • any cake mix
  • creme cheese frosting
  • lollipop sticks
  • chocolate melts

1. Prepare the cake mix as per instructions on the box.
2. Bake cake at 350 degrees. Once cake is baked, set to cool.
3. Once cake is cool, crumble it in a large mixing bowl.
4. Mix the crumble cake together with the frosting.
5. Roll the cake into balls. Once rolled, place them in the refrigerator for several hours.
6. One at a time get a lollipop stick and dip the stick about 1/2 inch of the tip into the melted candy coating and
then insert the lollipop stick straight into a cake ball, pushing it no more than halfway through. Hold the cake ball
and turn it back and forth or softly tap it, so the excess chocolate falls off. Place cake pops in the refrigerator to dry out completely.
Once dry you can wrap it individually.

The tricky part was the chocolate dipping. Some didn’t get enough chocolate coverage and some fell apart and didn’t look representable anymore. The cake pops that survived the chocolate bath were delicious and I will definitely make them again.

Do you have any baking recipes you love?

Christmas Haul

I went to the mall this weekend and picked up some stuff at MAC and Sephora. I also got my Sigma brushes. I have only used the foundation brush so far but I will review the brushes after using them for some time. I ordered the complete Brush Kit. If you’re still thinking if you should get the brushes, make sure you use the code DEC2011 to get 10% off & a free gift when you purchase $30 or more.

The Benefit legally Bronze kit is a really good deal. It includes High Beam, Hoola, Gilded (gold highlighter) & BADgal Brown mascara. The products are all full size.

Too Faced Primed & Poreless Skin Smoothing Face Primer. This is very similar to Benefit’s POREfessional so I’m not sure if I’m really in love yet.

Sephora by OPI nail strips

Zara Perfume Iris & Fresia

Mineralize Skinfinish (light Plus) & Mineralize Foundation SPF 15 (NC 15)

So far I like the foundation. It feels really nice & moisturizing on my skin. I’ll see if I have the same opinion in a couple of weeks and review it then again.

Morange Lipstick (Amplified Finish) – I love this color. It’s a orangey-red. None of the lipsticks I have are similar to this one.
